Initial Download First, you must download the free database reader called 'List' and one or more database (.pdb) files. Save them to your hard drive, then install both of them on your Palm using the install utility on your Palm desktop software. The next time you HotSync your Palm, 'List' should appear in the application menu. The first time you open 'List', you may be prompted to create a new database. Simply tap 'Done'. You're ready to go.
Setup Open 'List' in the application menu on your Palm. Tap the 'Options' icon (lower left of the screen). Tap ODBLU to open the Limited use Products database. If you want this database to automatically appear each time you open 'List', tap 'Options', then 'Customize' and uncheck 'Select database on launch'. To quickly change databases, tap on the icon in the lower right of the screen, then select the database.
Using the LU Database The drugs are sorted (and most easily searched) by brand name by default. You can change this by tapping 'Options', 'Customize', then beside 'Display order', tap 'Field1,Field2', then tap 'Field 2,Field1'. The drugs are now sorted alphabetically by generic name in the left hand column.
To quickly search for a drug in the left hand column (brand name unless changed above), simply use Graffiti to enter the first letter in the name. You will be taken to the part of the list beginning with that letter. Depending on how many drugs begin with that letter, you may have to enter the second letter to narrow the search.
To find a drug in the right hand column, you must perform a local search. Tap 'Find', then enter the first few letters of the drug (usually at least three to make the search useful). This will return all entries with this combination of letters in either field and in the criteria. This may result in some unusual results. For example, entering lev will not only return Levaquin, but also Sinemet CR, since levodopa appears in the criteria. This feature can be used to advantage to perform more advanced searches. For example, entering AIDS will return all drugs in the list for treating AIDS since they all contain this in their criteria.
Installing updates Download the updated database to your hard drive, then use the Install function to put it on your Palm. The old database will be automatically overwritten.
